Trip expense splitter

Record each expense with three facts: how much it cost, who paid, and who took part. Each expense is divided equally among its participants only. At the end, compare what each person paid against what their shares add up to — the differences are the balances, and a settle-up plan clears them in the fewest payments.

That's exactly what the participant toggles are for. If only three of five people did the boat tour, toggle the other two off for that expense — they won't be charged for it, and the payer is only reimbursed by the people who came.

Groups often split lodging by nights stayed and meals by who ate, which this tool handles by treating each expense separately with its own participants. If someone joined late, just leave them off the expenses from before they arrived.

Use the settle-up plan at the bottom of the calculator: it nets out everyone's balances and lists the minimum transfers — at most one fewer than the number of travelers. Pay those with your usual payment app and you're done.
